The Lewis Leathers back-catalogue is based on a collection of classic styles that have often remained unchanged since the late-1950s. As the company developed a deeper understanding of each jacket, they realised that small improvements were possible but didn’t want to lose the original shape. When a classic was slightly modified with new leathers and tweaks in design, the prefix ‘super’ was added. Accordingly, when the classic Plainsman No. 393 (introduced in 1965) was updated in 1967, it became the Super Plainsman No. 387.

The differences being the fringed chevron front yoke, additional fringes around the shoulders, epaulettes on shoulders, and angled front zippered pockets. This can be seen very clearly in Catalogue No. 39 (1969), in which the two styles were compared. That’s the history, but Lewis Leathers is not a museum, it’s a living and dynamic company that constantly responds to customer demands while adhering to our original patterns and maintaining our commitment to quality in manufacture.
To celebrate the 15-year anniversary of Roller, Japan’s leading magazine for old Harley-Davidson owners, we offer the original Super Plainsman in supple goat suede for comfort and functionality.
